We take responsibility for arranging the details of the funeral, from the practical elements, such as coffin, hearse, limousines to the church or crematorium, along with newspaper announcements, flowers, reception, service sheets, music requirements and any other requests that make the funeral the personal tribute that it deserves to be.
In the case of any death, the first practical step is to arrange the transfer of the deceased into our care and then await instructions. We provide advice and guidance for all aspects of the funeral service. Detailed discussions of the various options and the coordination of funeral requirements usually occur at our offices but, if preferred, we can visit you in your own home.
We would discuss:
- The necessary registration and administration requirements
- Options, availability and booking of the funeral venue and Officiant
- Planning the funeral transport
- Viewing and dressing of your loved one and the return of property
- Choosing a coffin or casket
- Newspaper announcements and printed orders of service
- Funeral flowers and venue flowers
- Special options such as alternative transport, music options, and opportunities for personalisation of the ceremony
- Post-funeral reception and refreshments
- Costs, payment terms and guidance with DWP claims
Visiting your loved one in our Chapels
At all our funeral homes we have dedicated private chapels of rest where you can visit your loved one. This is very much your decision. Some find it helps with the acceptance of death, whereas others can find it adds to their grief. We are always willing to discuss this with you and accommodate your requests. We also offer the facility to view your loved one in the privacy of your own home.
Chelsea Funeral Directors prides itself in looking after your loved one with sensitivity and respect at all times.
Newspaper announcements can be placed by us in a variety of local and national newspapers to advise people of the funeral date and also your requests regarding flowers and donations.
We are happy to administer donations to any charity of your choice and will personally thank each donor on your behalf. We will provide you with a list of donors and the total amount collected after a period of 4 – 6 weeks. If your friends and family would like to gift aid their donation so that the charity will gain an additional 28 pence of every pound given at no extra cost to themselves, please ask them to complete a Gift Aid declaration form and send with their donation (Click here: GOV.UK ‘Gift Aid declaration forms for a single donation’).
A printed Order of Service is a keepsake for the funeral of a loved one. It becomes a special memory to keep forever: for you, your family and friends who came to say goodbye, that can also be sent to those unable to attend the funeral.
Planning an Order of Service is very simple. There are standard design style layouts or you can choose a bespoke design that reflects your loved ones life passions or hobbies. We are always willing to discuss your requirements in detail.
More and more of us are considering the effect our lives have on the environment and funerals are no exception. At Chelsea we pride ourselves on being able to offer ecologically friendly options including English willow coffins and others approved by the FSC and the Soil Association.
We are also able to arrange woodland burials and green funerals.
All our products are manufactured with care to the FFMA United Kingdom specifications for coffin manufacture.
All raw material is carefully sourced from sustainable yield forest plantations where tree harvesting is government supervised.
Burial at Sea
Contrary to popular belief, burial at sea is still available and is the perfect tribute for all seafarers or those wanting something a bit more unusual.
